Orthodontics and the War against Biofilm

Panel Discussion with Dr Derek Mahoney & Tabitha Acret

Thursday, 29th July 2021

8.00pm (AEST)

About the Webinar

Biofilm formation around orthodontic appliances and aligners can cause serious complications. Orthodontic appliances not only promote the amount of biofilm formation but also increases the level of acidogenic bacteria inside the biofilm. If your patients do not maintain good oral hygiene, the acid produced by biofilms and low salivary flow will lead to demineralisation, sensitivity, white spot lesions, gingivitis or other complications.

Preventive measures such a Guided Biofilm Therapy are urgently required to prevent biofilm-related side effects. The development of AIRFLOW technology gives better opportunities to patient, orthodontist, general dentist, hygienist and oral health therapist.

This panel discussion with leading Orthodontist, Dr Derek Mahony and award-winning Hygienist, Tabitha Acret will focus on orthodontic biofilm-related problems and the necessary actions to control and decrease the size of the problem.

Learning Objectives:

  • Understanding biofilm formation on orthodontic appliances and aligners
  • Why biofilm removal is necessary in orthodontic clinics prior and during orthodontic treatment
  • The benefits of disclosing especially after you have bonded aligner attachments to check if the attachment has seated correctly
  • The benefit and use of AIRFLOW on TAD’s
