Successful Periodontal Treatment

Managing your periodontal patients within the 'new' classifications

Speaker: Dr Chris Barker

Thursday, 9th April  2020

About the Webinar

From the development of gingivitas, and its progression to periodontal disease, join Periodontist Dr Chris Barker as he discusses the importance of case selection and preventive measures in treating periodontal disease. He’ll provide guidance on how to manage perio patients within the framework of the new classification of periodontal diseases so you can formulate a diagnosis and discuss what long-term maintenance regimes may be appropriate for your patients.

The health of soft tissues around natural teeth and implants is now even more important as a greater number of people keep their teeth in their older age and the retention of natural teeth has increased. With the sharp rise in an aging population, we are also seeing an increased prevalence of systemic complications and challenges to deliver treatment.

Learning Objectives

  • Outline what is periodontitis and how to communicate it to your patients
  • Discuss the current classification for periodontal disease with the aim to be able to formulate a diagnosis
  • Discuss how clinicians may choose to manage their periodontal cases
  • Understand non-surgical and surgical treatment approaches to periodontal diseases
  • Know when to refer, who can refer and how to refer
  • Discuss the crucial role of maintenance care and what is appropriate for your patients
